Get Out, Dude: 21 Outdoor Gifts for 2021
My 21 outdoor gifts for 2021 aren't all just for the outdoorsy types on your holiday shopping list. Many are gift-ready for dudes or ladies who simply, on occasion, step outside. For example, my wife, She-Ra: Princess of Power isn't into camping or hiking or participating in activities involving bodies of water, but she does like to eat BBQ ribs in the backyard. The NOMAD briefcase grill & smoker and a Timber Stove wood pellet patio heater both lend themselves as well to that "outdoor adventure" as, say, the Super Kayak and SandShark Anchor do to a more traditional idea of getting outside.
So for both the outdoor enthusiasts and outdoor stepper outers in your life, here are my 21 picks for outdoor gifts in 2021.
Note: All 21 outdoor gifts are priced as they were at printing on November 20, 2021. Pricing, and availability, are subject to change.
Moki Car Door Step for Rooftop Access
Ladies and gentlemen, step on up...to the rooftop of your car, truck, or SUV. The Moki Door Step is a heavy-duty aluminum platform that hooks over your vehicle's front or rear door latch to provide full access to its rooftop for loading and securing bikes, skis, and other sports equipment and cargo, or getting every square inch of your ride clean.
TOPS Knives Mini Slingshot
Sometimes it's the little things that give the biggest thrills. The TOPS Knives Mini Slingshot would like you to keep that nugget (pellet? BB? 3/8" biodegradable clay ball?) of wisdom in mind when you're shopping for holiday gifts this year.
The TOPS Mini Sling is a follow-up to the brand's 2017 standard-sized catapult, released in response to customer requests for a more EDC-friendly means of spontaneous plinking. The slingshot is made of black powder-coated structural steel and a Tan Canvas micarta handle. It weighs just 3.2 ounces, distributed over its 3.5" x 1.75" length and width.
Escapod TOPO2 Trailer
The Escapod TOPO2 looks pretty alright from the exterior in my opinion, but according to Escapod, the inside of this teardrop trailer is where it's at. They say, "The TOPO2 packs more features & functionality into an interior than you’ve ever seen." That includes a heated mudroom at both entry doors, with a 4.5" x 32" utility space to use as a foot perch and 4 total coat hooks for wet, dirty, or cumbersome gear. It includes 8 cubic feet of cabinet space, plus another 5 cubic feet of storage behind the bed's headboard, the latter of which heads up a 6" queen-sized memory foam mattress. It includes a galley with a Ruvati sink and ENO 2-burner stove that "will make your kitchen at home jealous."
microMend Emergency Wound Closures
microMend Emergency Wound Closures give new meaning to the term "pinch one off." Marketed as a quick, safe, and way less expensive alternative to heading to the ER for stitches, microMend closures can seal lacerations of up to 1" in length each, or lined up to seal longer cuts and gashes. Teamwork, baby!
As the name suggests, microMend Emergency Wound Closures are great for emergencies, particularly those that occur in remote locations, such as while camping or road tripping.
Toadfish Anchor Non-Tipping Universal Cup Holder
Sip with no tip on your ship. Or, if you prefer, sippy with no tippy on your shippy. The Toadfish Anchor is a non-tipping universal cup holder whose most obvious use is to hold your cans, bottles, tumblers, and glassware steady while feeling the motion of the ocean on boating adventures. From gentle rocking on a pontoon to major tacking on a sailboat, Toadfish says the Anchor Cup Holder will do just that - anchor your drink to whatever smooth surface you've suctioned it to.
NOMAD Briefcase Grill & Smoker
This briefcase is smokin' hot! The NOMAD grill & smoker packs a charcoal BBQ grill and smoker into a pretty decent lookin', and ultra-portable 20.5" x 13.5" x 9.5" case. Open the carrier up to expose 425 square inches of cooking space, enough for around 15 burgers per side.
SPOTMYUV Stickers - Detect When to Reapply Sunscreen
As if it's not bad enough my mama still nags me to wear sunscreen, now she's gonna slap a SPOTMYUV sticker detector on me everytime I go to her house so she can nag me to reapply it. SPOTMYUV is a color-changing UV detection sticker heliophiles...and their mamas...can place their bodies to let them know when their sunscreen has worn off, and it's time to reapply.
Submerge Waterproof Wallet & Cardholder
Whether it's in water, snow, sweat, or bulk wrestling Jello, the Submerge waterproof wallet and cardholder lets you do just that. Submerge. Without worrying your cash, cards, keys, and other small EDC will follow the submergence suit.
The Submerge wallet and cardholder comes in 2 parts, both made from sustainable TPU. The quick-dry outer pouch has a YKK airtight waterproof zipper and an IPX8 100% waterproof rating up to 3 meters. It comes with a removable armband for attachment to your person during activities ranging from swimming and white water rafting to running and skiing. You can also loop a carabiner through the Submerge wallet and attach it to your clothes, bag, or another stable point.
OOOptic Lenses - Magnetic Adhesive Myopia Lenses
Like NakeFit stick-on shoes for your feet, OOOptic Lenses add versatility and minimalism to your lifestyle courtesy of the bond between adhesives and substrates. Oh, and magnets. Can't forget the glorious properties of magnets. OOOptic Lenses are magnetic adhesive lenses people with myopia (aka the nearsighted) can apply to a range of eyewear - from sunglasses to ski goggles to swim goggles to diving masks - to unblur their vision when wearing prescription glasses isn't practical.
Prank Dissolving Swim Shorts
I mean, I think anyone who tried on these Prank Dissolving Swim Shorts - or even felt their "fabric" out of the box - would know your story about their being perfectly normal navy blue board shorts for the beach doesn't hold water. But if you can pull off the ruse long enough to get your target to don them and step into the ocean or pool...BWAHAHAHA!
Not only won't your story hold water, but the swim shorts you gag gifted some poor SOB will start dissolving immediately upon contact with it.
iBall Wireless Trailer Hitch Camera
The iBall Wireless Trailer Hitch Camera endeavors to ensure your efforts to hitch up your boat, camper, ATV, livestock, horse, or truck trailer go off...say it with me...without a hitch. The 2-piece system consists of a 3.5" LCD color display that plugs into your vehicle's cigarette lighter, and the (rechargeable) battery-powered iBall Hitch Camera that magnetically mounts just above the hitch ball at the back.
BruMate BackTap Backpack Cooler
Dude. When did "Holds 14 cans of White Claw!" become one of a cooler's primary selling points? The BruMate BackTap is a hard-shelled backpack cooler with a tap at the bottom. So it can haul and dispense up to 3 "loose" gallons of your favorite beer or other beverage, the latter of which you can mix right in the tank. The BackTap can also load up with 12 beer cans, 5 bottles of wine, orrrrr 14 slim cans of the Claw. Truly and Mich Ultra too if you prefer, neither of which is, in my opinion, much better of a reward for schlepping a heavy-ass cooler on your back, even if it's just a 5-minute walk from the car to the beach, and definitely not a mile in to your campsite.
Timber Stoves - Wood Pellet Patio Heaters
Wood pellets. Gravity. Venturi effect. I call ye together to my Timber Stove and say, "Let there be heat!" Oh, I guess I need a little lighter fluid too, but electricity? Nay. You stay with the infrared bulbs and propane. I prefer my patio heaters to output twice the BTUs and cause me half the maintenance and usage problems.
Timber Stoves are wood pellet patio heaters made in Oregon by someone who has wood pellets in his blood - Tyson Traeger of the Traeger Wood Pellet Grill family. Now, taking advantage of their inexpensive and efficient burning capacity, and having optimized their ability to power a patio heater with no electricity or moving parts, Traeger has co-opted the fuel source to keep hands and butts warm while eating and entertaining outdoors on cold nights.
Baby Sleeping Bags
Snug as a bug in a rug is right. These Baby Sleeping Bags from Morrison Outdoors are as adorable as they are functional. And by functional I mean, like wearable sleeping bags for adults, they will keep your kiddos warm and cozy without mummifying them, but unlike the former, Baby Sleeping Bags will mermaid-ify them. Zip them up with 2 arms, but only one leg free and at their disposal. This increases Baby Sleeping Bags' functionality by, like, tenfold in that it removes the child's ability to crawl, walk, or run amok through and away from your campsite.
Radiate Portable Campfire
The Radiate Portable Campfire is truly a campfire in a can. To be more precise, it's an 8" x 3.5" lidded aluminum cylinder filled with 100% recycled soy wax and paper briquettes. Set it up anywhere from the backyard to the beach, and enjoy a 3+-hour burn time that provides flames for ambience, heat, and s'mores roastin' and hot dog cookin' alike. Don't forget your Hot Dog Man & Marshmallow Woman campfire cooking sticks!
SandShark Super Sport Anchor for Beach & Shallow Water
The SandShark Super Sport Anchor does not believe in the pull-out method. Made specifically for beach and shallow water anchoring, the SandShark has a patent-pending design featuring collapsible handles that drill the anchor's screw auger down into the sand. Once set, the surrounding water holds down the sand to create a "suction" effect its makers say keeps the SandShark clamped down with zero chance of pulling out.
IKEA Faltmal Convertible Pillow & Wearable Quilt
No Falt or malintent with IKEA's new Faltmal pillow and wearable quilt combo. It's like a multi-tool for relaxation, coziness, and comfort. And, unlike nearly everything else IKEA sells, you won't require said relaxation, coziness, and comfort as a result of your efforts to put together the Faltmal pillow-quilt. It comes with no assembly required.
Den DIY Cabin Kit
Den frames - no A-frames - their DIY Cabin Kits like this: "You're truly only limited by how far you want to transport building materials into the woods." In other words, you can build this 115-square-foot tiny cabin anywhere, on-grid or off, your backyard or the backside of a mountaintop, as long as you're willing to schlep the kit out there. Get your mulin' bones, and the dudes who owe you for helping them move over the years, ready.
Hydrapak Expedition 8L Collapsible Water Bottle
Hydrapak's 8L Expedition water bottle applies the flatten'n'pack Hydrapak family tradition the Stash bottle established to a much larger scale. Where the Stash holds 750mL of hydration, enough for a short hike or your kid's soccer game, the Expedition holds a whole weekend camping trip's worth.
Your Summer of Super is just one kayak away. The Super Kayak is a new watercraft with inflatable, catamaran-style floats its makers say make it the most super in speed, stability, and portability.
Packed into its 28" x 20" x 12" backpack / roller bag, the Super Kayak weighs just 30 pounds, making it fairly easy to schlep with you on a hike to a remote freshwater lake, precarious entry point to a river, or just way farther down the beach from all the other yay-hoos trying to launch their floating islands and giant swan pedal boat rentals.
Bailey Discovery Camper Trailers
Bailey of Bristol's Discovery Camper Trailer series aren't some ultra-luxe, pimped-out, cost-prohibitive glamper trailers. They're nice, and have a few unique features, for sure, but by camper standard, they are affordable and, more importantly, they're actually built for the casual, no-frills endeavors they were created for. Camping. Cross-country treks. Living on the side of the road in a quiet residential neighborhood until the cops kick you out because your city has no affordable housing.
