The Run Lock
Check It Out

When I run...ha! This entry is already full of lies. The last time I ran I think I was 8 and the ice cream truck was about to get away before I ordered my pink sherbet foot with the gumball toenail! So let me start again. When I see other people run I always wonder where they stuffed their keys, and often think that if I went to the closest parking lot or line of parked cars and dug around underneath some wheel wells and inside tailpipes I could get myself a brand new Subaru for free. Unless it's a lady running, in which case I usually just get distracted trying to figure out whether or not she stuck her keys and ID in her cleavage. I'm not staring, ma'am, I'm making a scientific inquiry.

Anyway, the Run Lock creators saw this issue of safe personal effect storage during runs as a solvable problem. They designed their portable, weather-resistant key safe to latch to any secure surface on a runner's vehicle. (Or a hiker's, a camper's, a perpetual key loser's....) The Run Lock can affix to roof racks, door handles, suspension coils, towing eyes, under a car's body, anywhere that's not dislodging from the car without major effort, and anywhere accessible enough that the runner will be able to enter the lock's combination for stuff retrieval when it's time to head back home.

Obviously the Run Lock is also game for attachment to non-vehicular surfaces. Maybe one of those skinnier rungs on a bike rack or, like, some sort of public utility cable. Don't worry, you pay your taxes. The City won't mind.

Run Locks have 10,000 possible 4-digit combinations, which users can set and reset as many times as they want. The device's 3-step directions for use are as follows:

  1. Enter your 4-digit combination.
  2. Insert keys. Even the largest sets of luxury car and truck keys should fit within the 2.7" long x 1.6" wide x 1.2" deep Run Lock internal dimensions.
  3. Secure the lock to a vehicle or other stable point.
  4. Go do your 8 miles or run that marathon key- and worry-free, you smug overachiever!

The Run Lock is a top Dude Gift for an Athlete pick.
