A miniature exact replica of mine own self, scanned and 3D printed to order? Hmmm. How about a gargantuan, like 10:1, 3D-printed twin that I can fill with air as I would a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade ballon and float around my neighborhood such that it peeks into the bedroom windows of all the girls who have scorned me? No? OK, then, I guess I'll take the little figurine.

Twinself has developed the technology--and the capitalistic spirit--to provide 3D body scanning and true-to-life, scaled down statues of human beings. Or their pets. Printed twins come in 7 different sizes, ranging from 5.9" to 13.8" (whoa, that last number made me start thinking about having a whole Mini Me the size of my dong, and my brain is now having trouble reconciling the trippiness.) To complete an order, small-self-seekers must first make an appointment to visit Twinself's studio in person. It's in Hamburg, Germany. There the maestros of digital cloning will perform a (100% safe...allegedly) 3D scan of the entire body. Their equipment will detect precise proportions, body position, accessories, even drapes in clothing. The scan happens quickly, almost in the blink of an eye, and the technology used is similar to what most would recognize as the Matrix Effect--a multi-camera system based on photogrammetry principles. Once the image is captured, Twinself uses the latest color 3D printing systems to return the client to life, this time as a wee little inanimate leprechaun.

Twinself figurines are made of a high performance composite powder, but should be treated delicately because they will break if dropped, and are not replaceable with a smile and a wave of the hand like mint chocolate chip ice cream cones from Baskin Robbins.
