Wisteria Puzzle Cabinet

The Wisteria Puzzle Cabinet is the perfect place to store all of your Yosegi Puzzle Boxes and Labyrinth Cubes. Or it would be if Craig Thibodeau didn't build the solid wood masterpiece for someone else.

Thibodeau, operating as CT Fine Furniture Shop, specializes in complex mechanical furniture, taking inspiration from 18th century woodworkers Abraham and David Roentgen. He created the Wisteria Puzzle Cabinet in collaboration with puzzle maker Robert Yarger. The piece is pretty spectacular, holding many delightful secrets amongst its moving parts. The above video will give you the best description, but once you've folded down the Wisteria lid you'll find a collection of doors and drawers that open only if you solve the puzzle, and tug on them in the right sequence to release their latches. There are other "right moves" you must make too to access other sets of cubbies, plus a sweet action that raises another set of drawers like a dumbwaiter in the center. And then, holy crap, watch what happens when Thibodeau starts pulling out the drawstring bags of goodies from some of the drawers!

Appropriately, Thibodeau and Yarger designed the Wisteria Puzzle Cabinet for a puzzle collector. Thibodeau used a ton of different woods in its construction, including Honduran Mahogany, Maple Burl, Amboyna Burl, Walnut Burl, Walnut, Sycamore, and Olive Ash.
