One time I went to Chile and while others gaped at the glaciers of Patagonia and marveled at the volcanos of the Lake District, I ate empanadas. While they trekked the rolling green hills of fourth-generation farms and strolled the beaches of Valparaiso, I ate empanadas. Then we went farther north to wine country and I took a break from eating empanadas long enough to get trashed and pass out on the front walk of a regal and rambling Colchagua Valley hacienda.
