From phones to backpacks, the modular approach clearly isn't just for LEGO anymore. Australian design studio Derlot has created what might be the most lustworthy use of modules yet: Waterscape. Sure, this floating platform can be a dock or a tanning raft or an unmoving booze cruise for you and 5 of your best buddies, but it can also be: a living room on water; a driving range; a helicopter landing pad; and an LED-lit, Barry White-blasting, Tempur-Pedic-accommodating island where the time is always sexy time.
Waterscape's function shifts according to the accessories and layout users opt to "clip on" to its surface. Sitting and eating areas are formed with the arrangement of one-meter buoyancy boxes. These modules can also form planters and ice chests for entertainment activities, as well as electrical boxes and ladders for more utilitarian purposes. The ideal Waterscape client? Anyone who can afford to commission Derlot to build one, as John Hogan of Superior Jetties did. That includes waterfront homeowners, resorts, restaurants, nightclubs, and marinas.
