Maelstrom XM18 18,000 Lumen Spotlight
The Foursevens Maelstrom XM18 uses 18 Cree XM-L2 LEDs to blast out a blinding 18,000 lumens of light. Not an exaggeration. Think you'll shoot your eye out with a BB gun? Look into, or even sideways, at the XM18 and both of your eyes will be irreparably shot out. The only difference is it will feel more like getting punched in the face by God than pelted by a tiny metal ball. Maelstrom. Fitting name.
Though a potential lifesaver in emergencies or during missteps in the backwoods, the Maelstrom XM18 is definitely not pocket-sized. Its heavy-duty aluminum housing measures 12" in diameter, and loaded with its 28 internal RCR 18650 batteries The Illuminator weighs around 12-1/2 pounds. It has 4 output modes, with the highest able to beam over distances of up to 400 yards:
- Low: 600 lumens for 24 hours
- Medium: 3,000 lumens for 5 hours 30 mins
- High: 18,000 lumens for 1 hour 20 mins
- Strobe: 10 Hz, 18,000 lumens for 2 hours 40 mins
To control the massive heat output that accompanies its light the XM18 has an internal cooling fan, activated when the device's core temperature reaches 104 degrees F. It increases speed proportional to temperature increases, and kicks into high gear at 185 degrees F. If the spotlight maintains 185 or higher for more than 10 seconds, the Maelstrom will automatically power off.
XM18s are rechargeable only via their included charger and cable. From a drained batter it will take around 11 hours to re-up for use. The light cannot be turned on while it's charging.
The Maelstrom XM18 18,000 lumen spotlight is a top Dude Gift for a Man pick. Probably only a man you like a lot given that you'll have to drop a couple grand to buy it for him.
