I guess ninja weapons have always been made out of everyday household items, it's just that the definition of an everyday household item isn't quite the same in contemporary America as it was in feudal Japan. So when John Austin says he can to teach me how to create nunchucks and grappling hooks out of the stuff I have in my own, 21st century kitchen cabinets and desk drawers, I tell John Austin I'm listening.

Oh. I have to read how to do it. Crap. OK, then, hand it over.

Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction: Build and Master Ninja Weapons is the 4th installment of toy designer Austin's Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction series. His DIY books all provide step-by-step instructions on how to turn the staples of your home into staples of warfare. Ninja Weapons includes 37 how-tos, including the Crouching Tiger Catapult, Paper Clip Grappling Hook, Origami Boomerang, Magazine Nunchucks, Craft Stick Katana, and Pencil Top Eraser Dart.

The book also includes instructions for creating targets from dragons to tripod bulls-eyes to use in testing out your new armory. Here's hoping I'll find a pattern for sewing a ninja costume out of black garbage bags somewhere in the mix too. My last attempt to freestyle one didn't go so well in the accuracy and breathing departments.
