My first thought when I saw the Woodcut Memory Game was, Holy crap, I couldn't even match cards covered in cross-sections of trees if they were all right-side up! Flipped over, forcing players to remember both the grain patterns and where they lay in the game grid, that sounded impossible. Worse than a Clemens Habicht's Color Puzzle.

But if you take a gander at a few of the Woodcut Memory Game's cards, you'll see it's not so bad. Most of the cuts stand out - and hopefully imprint in the mind - with unique shapes, colors, and presentations in print, and only a few of them appear as full-bleed prints. I mean, I probably still couldn't get any matches right, but you, you can do it!

And you can give the same Dad words of encouragement when you buy the Woodcut Memory Game as a gift for Dad next time you need one.

The game branches off from artist Bryan Nash Gill's book Woodcut, continuing the celebration of trees and their internal beauty with pairs of 26 different and distinctive woodcuts printed on coaster-style boards. As nice as the game itself is the Woodcut Memory Game box, all arboreal ringed out and ready for display on your coffee or side table.
