Nike Fit Digital Foot Scanner

Oh boy, sneaker shoppers. Nike Fit, an app-based scanner that uses computer vision, machine learning, AI, and recommendation algorithms to find your perfect Nike shoe size, is about to hit the Nike app online store. Let the foot data harvesting begin!

Nike Fit stems from research indicating a whole lot of people are wearing the wrong shoe size. And also, I'd say, from Nike's decision to design shoes in sizes that don't fit consistently across their styles, forcing me to return size 10 Nike Flyknits even though size 10 Nike Air Jordans fit me fine.

OK, well, maybe that's Nike's point - different shoes might fit the same feet better in different sizes. Using Nike Fit before buying a pair will measure the full shape of both your feet, and suggest the perfect size for every Nike shoe style.

When shopping on the Nike app, after you select your shoe size you'll get a prompt to try Nike Fit. It's optional, but if you decide to press the magic button, you'll use your smartphone's camera to allow Nike Fit to scan your feet, and collect 13 data points to use in mapping your foot morphology. The process takes just a few seconds, and the recorded scan and foot dimension info save in your NikePlus member profile for future online shopping trips. Nike Fit is also available in Nike retail stores.
