Though not yet skilled enough to earn itself Ninja status, the Turtle Shell Bluetooth speaker does amount to more than your average armored reptile. Shockproof, dust-proof, and water-resistant even through a heavy rain, the compact boombox will travel anywhere you do that merits cranked volume, Hi-Fi audio, and earbud-free listening.
The Turtle Shell was originally funded as a Kickstarter project, and is now in its 2.0 generation of production. Improvements include a longer battery life at 16 hours per charge, and a dual-speaker/passive bass radiator combo that provides 96 decibels of clear sound up to 32 feet away. Creator Outdoor Tech notes that 96 decibels is louder than a bear's roar. I wonder if it's louder than the feral cats that have taken to mating outside my bedroom window this spring. If so, I'd like 4 Turtle Shell speakers, please. One to blast, and 3 to chuck at the cats mid-coitus.
Their rubber-coated shells are supposed to make them rugged. I bet they wouldn't even dent.
Turtle Shell 2.0 boomboxes pair via Bluetooth 4.0 to smartphones, tablets, laptops, or any other enabled device. In addition to their sound output technology, the systems can also make and receive calls as a speakerphone. Speaker weight is 0.65 pounds and measurements a tidy 5.6" x 3.9" x 2.1".
