Volvo 240 Winter Cabin

Volvo 240 Winter Cabin

Chris Labrooy, your Winter Cabin had me at Volvo 240. And that's before I even processed what I was looking at: not one, but two Volvo 240 wagons gettin' it on in a 69, and then slid into the side of the cabin, Tetris-style, since the opening has been custom-cut just to receive them. It's a sight to behold.

And for me, not only because Labrooy's artistic vision is exceptional, but also because it brings a nostalgic tear to my eye. As I said, the Winter Cabin had me at Volvo 240, the first car I ever owned. My mama bought it for me used with 120,000+ miles on it, and I drove it with pride for 6 years. At least when it let me. The car had this weird...uh...tick, we'll say, that came out sometimes when I was at a stop and tried to hit the gas. It would lurch forward a couple of feet to accelerate, and then just, like, change its mind and refuse to move any faster than 2 to 5 MPH. I'd have to keep lifting up and pressing down on the gas pedal until it recovered, or grew tired of the cars behind me honking, and take off again like nothing ever happened. It was such a bastard. Ah, I loved that bastard.

While the Winter Cabin isn't for sale, or on Air B&B...yet...you can buy prints of some of Labrooy's other vehicular expressions and experimentations in his online shop. There's a nifty shot of the stacked Volvos, sans cabin, included.

Muchas danke to Yanko Design.
