Lubricheck Engine Oil Tester & Analyzer

I always thought my car required an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles out of necessity, but according to Lubricheck, I shell out my precious duos of Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States and fellow Pisces, at regular intervals out of convention. Lubricheck, a self-described blood test for your vehicle's oil, would like to stop this madness. Its alternative is a handheld tool designed to intake a few drops of oil from your reservoir and, seconds later, output a general analysis of the contents' quality and continued usability.

Contemporary vehicle and oil technology have come a long way since WWII, the time at which the 3-to-5K oil change recommendation was established. The forces behind Lubricheck point out that independent research completed on the validity of this advice suggests that: 1) Most of today's cars can maintain performance for 15,000 miles before needing an oil change; and 2) Oil condition tests based on oil opacity, coloration, or darkness are still widely used, but invalid for accurately assessing the substance.

The Lubricheck employs WaveOn technology to give consumers information about their oil and its condition--information that they say encompasses far more than "Swap out," or "Keep on rollin'." In addition to analyzing current oil quality, Lubricheck also detects sudden or unexplained drops in oil quality caused by system impurities that could be due to other problems, such as coolant leaks, water, and metal particulates. Having this information early could alert drivers to, as well as preclude bigger problems and costly repairs.

Lubricheck rates oil on a scale of 1 to 10, and in the Good (green, 1 to 7), Fair (tan, 8 to 9), or Change (red, 10) categories. A fast flashing #10 light indicates you may also have engine problems. Additional (and extensive) information about the science and technology behind Lubricheck, as well as further discussion of the "myth" of the 3,000-mile oil change can be found on Lubricheck's Website.
