Vargo's take on their Titanium Pocket Cleats is that the compact, folding crampons are aces at improving speed and traction on runs and ultralight hiking trips through the snow. But given the level to which hell froze over on the East Coast last winter, I figure you might as well just keep an EDC pair in your briefcase or backpack to get down the sidewalk to the taco truck on your lunch break.
Vargo uses titanium alloy spikes on its Pocket Cleats, which the company says claw into snow and ice with the vigor and determination of ladies at Wal-Mart on Black Friday, but add only about a third of the weight to your feet that other cleats do. When not in use the Titanium Pocket Cleat legs fold and the set fits into an included nylon carrying case. Cleats attach to shoes with wraparound high-strength nylon webbing and Duraflex fasteners.
