Handbag Dyetonator Bag & Purse Thief Marker
Malaysian company Ash Be Nimble launched the Handbag Dyetonator, an accessory that permanently marks thieves with dye and releases a smoke flare upon activation, because bag and purse theft is apparently a huge problem for women in Malaysia. Huge and dangerous. Check out this video of thieves snatching purses on mopeds. It's not just the purse they make off with.
The Handbag Dyetonator looks like a standard bag bauble. Something the manufacturer clipped on for aesthetics, a keychain, or maybe a panic alarm. But inside lies a capsule of permanent dye and smoke only the bag's owner can detonate - with a text - if needed.
Each Dyetonator is linked to a user-selected 6-digit activation code. If a snatch occurs, send the code via SMS to 36663 from any phone to activate the charge inside the device within 5 seconds. The keychain will explode upon detonation, marking the thief with unmistakable colors, as well as sending the smoke signal to garner further attention. The smoke flare burns for around 4 minutes.
Units are also fitted with GPS modules that activate with the dye and smoke packs. You can log on to Ash Be Nimble's Handbag Dyetonator website to track your stolen bag in real time, and provide further information to the police.
Handbag Dyetonators will be available in 5 different colors, and are USB-rechargeable with up to 5 days of standby time. At printing, Jack Be Nimble was trial testing the device with consumers. The trial is full, but you can sign up for the waitlist on the Handbag Dyetonator website.
