KUIU packs are for the sportier of the sportsmen out there. You who like to get off the main drags and hike in for your hunts. Even more, they're for those of you who feel like if your pack's gonna weigh you down, it better not be from anything but all the meat that's inside it. KUIU sells 2 lines of backpacks for hunters centered around a modular build system and an ultralight carbon fiber frame.
KUIU backpack frames are California-made from Tow Carbon Fiber, and weigh just 11 ounces. They pair with any bag in the KUIU ULTRA and ICON PRO series, the former consisting of 3 pack sizes designed for high performance, and the latter 4 packs geared towards durability and extra features.
Taking a closer look at the ULTRA line, the mid-size 3000 (named for its capacity in cubic inches) supports intensive day hunts or 2- to 3-day bivouac-style hunts. Alone the bag weighs 14.1 ounces, and paired with the carbon fiber frame and strap kit, starts at 3 pounds 4.3 ounces. It has capacity for large optics or cold weather gear if that's where you're headed, with a main compartment with full horseshoe zip, 2 x front zippered pockets, and 1 x stuff-it pocket. By comparison, the ULTRA 6000 has double the capacity as the 3000, and enough space for gear and food to cover 10 days in the field. Full kit weight of the larger bag starts at 3 pounds 12.7ounces. For day hunts from a base camp, you can swap out an ULTRA 6000 for a 3000, or either for the smaller 1800 since all 3 secure to the same carbon fiber frame. And KUIU notes that even the 1800 is capable of carrying over 80 pounds of meat back to camp.
ICON PRO Backpacks come in 1850, 3200, 5200, and 7200 sizes. The 7200 will set you up 5 internal and 8 external pockets, plus a 150+-pound load capacity, for a 14-day escape from ceilings and walls.
