Rather than protect your skin from the sun UTHERMIC's Coldscreen harnesses energy from your own body heat to protect it from the harsh, bitter chill of winter air. This is terrific news for people who are cold all the time, such as girls. It should also prick up the ears of anyone who loves winter sports and outdoor activities, but could stand to lose some of the heavy, bulky layers they have to wear to participate.

Coldscreen applies like any other lotion, on as little or as much of your body as you want to heat up (with the exception of those parts--you can do that on your own). Unlike other personal warmers, it requires no batteries to operate and adds virtually no additional weight to your haul. Once in place Coldscreen acts like barrier. As your muscles generate heat during movement it collects and retains the warmth so that when you stop that natural heat won't dissipate through radiation. UTHERMIC also points out that while Coldscreen insulates wearers at rest, it regulates temperatures and won't overheat them during activity.

Coldscreen is recommended for skiing and other snow sports, winter hiking, and parking your back end on a row of metal bleachers during your kid's December football game. Warming effects typically set in within 5 to 15 minutes of application, and endure for around 4 hours (depending on temperature and activity level).

In addition to keeping you warm, the lotion will also provide the same benefits as a daily moisturizer, softening and repairing dry skin. Additional Coldscreen stats include:

  • Dermatologist-approved safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
  • 98% natural ingredients, such as organic aloe leaf juice, jojoba extracts, coconut oil, chamomile, shea butter, Vitamin B, and Antarctic kelp extract.
  • Not oily or greasy and unscented; can be worn under clothes without funking them up.
  • Not tested on animals, and contains no harsh chemicals, parabens, sulfates, or artificial colors/fragrances.

UTHERMIC seeks Coldscreen crowdfunding on Indiegogo through November 17, 2015.
